The Theremin is an electronic sound synthesizer. It is played by moving the hand towards or away from the antenna, which varies the note emitted without touching the instrument. The device has two modes: continuous and discrete. Discrete mode, as the name suggests, emits individual or discrete notes rather than a continuous variable tone. Eight octave-wide notes are available. In discrete mode, the buttons play the note one octave lower or higher. The left-hand button (marked -) decreases the tone by one octave, the right-hand button (marked +) increases the tone by one octave. Buttons change octave only when pressed. In continuous mode, the buttons have no function.
